Utah’s climate can be challenging when it comes to keeping a lawn green and healthy, especially when installing new sod for the first time. Here are some recommendations to keep your yard looking its best:
⏱️ Watering times by nozzle type
The watering duration depends on the type of nozzle installed:
- Sprayers (fan-type sprinklers): 15 minutes per zone
- Rotors: 30 minutes per zone
- R-VAN or MP Rotator: 35 minutes per zone
🚿 Frequency during the first weeks
- During the first 3 weeks, water 3 times per day, every day, with the duration based on the nozzle installed.
- This constant watering allows the sod to establish strong roots.
- After this period, you can walk on the lawn and adjust the timer to switch to a maintenance schedule.
💧 Maintenance watering schedule
After the first 3 weeks, once the sod is rooted, adjust the controller to a maintenance program. A general recommendation for Utah is:
- Spring & Fall: 3 times per week, 25–35 minutes per zone (depending on nozzle type).
- Summer: 4 times per week, 30–40 minutes per zone.
